Engineering & Materials PhD Programmes

Engineering PhD programmes are highly specific: biomechanics, additive manufacturing and flexible electronics, computational fluid dynamics, energy and power systems, energy materials, materials synthesis and device physics, robot control and smart manufacturing. The 22 open programmes here are at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Southern California, University of Wisconsin–Madison, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Binghamton University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and other universities; 14 accept applicants straight from a bachelor's degree; 6 state full funding.

Engineering supervisors look for hands-on work: experiments, simulations, fabrication or programming, described in your CV with the methods you used and the results you got. Many programmes accept degrees in mechanical engineering, materials, electronics, physics or chemistry, so look beyond programmes with your exact degree title.

For many of the programmes we work with, you can interview with a prospective supervisor before the formal application. Tell us your major, grades and projects, and we will check which areas fit best.
